2016年4月25日，张明富读完一则新闻，鼻子一酸，泪花打转转。这则新闻的内容是这样的：习近平总书记一行驱车来到安徽省滁州市凤阳县小岗村，在“当年农家”院落了解当年18户村民按下红手印、签订大包干契约的情景。总书记感慨道：“当年贴着身家性命干的事，变成中国改革的一声惊雷，成为中国改革的标志。”
On April 25, 2016, Zhang Mingfu, after reading a piece of news, was touched with his nose twitched and tears filled his eyes. The content of this news was as follows: General Secretary Xi Jinping and relevant staff drove to Xiaogang Village which was located in Fengyang County of Chuzhou City of Anhui Province, and learned about the scene of 18 villagers pressing the red handprints and signing the contract of household production responsibility in the courtyard of the “farmhouse of the year”. The general secretary sighed with emotion, “What we did on the pressure in the past with our reputation, became a sign of the beginning of China's reform.“
张明富觉得自己感受特别深：那些农民当年改革，要冒着多大的风险？就像自己做出的很多决定，也许在当时不会被肯定，但历史会证明，我是对的。
Zhang Mingfu felt very deeply. He wondered how many risks the farmers would take when they carried out reforms in the past. Just as many of his decisions might not be affirmed at that time, the history would prove that his choices were valuable.
时间回到2004年，就在化妆品厂风生水起的时候，张明富得知团泽镇正面临着重大危机和考验：鹌鹑产业遭受挫折，干群矛盾激化。
Back in 2004, when the cosmetics factory was flourishing, Zhang Mingfu learned that Tuanze Town was facing serious tests that the quail industry suffered setbacks and the conflict between the cadres and the masses were intensified.
2003年，中央将解决“三农”问题摆在突出位置，时任遵义市委书记傅传耀到团泽镇调研，发现鹌鹑养殖能够带动农民增收致富，对此高度重视。
In 2003, the central government put the problem of the "three Rural Issues”[2] in a prominent position. Fu Chuanyao, secretary of the Zunyi Municipal Party Committee, at that time, investigated Tuanze Town and found that quail breeding could help increase farmers' income and live a better life. Hence, he attached great importance to the quail breeding.
团泽镇立即成立一个鹌鹑养殖协会，不料协会管理不善，原会长垄断了饲料，加之鹌鹑产业风险大、产品周期短，第一年，农民亏惨了，第二年，大家还想试试看，结果亏得血本无归，贷款都还不起。
A Quail-breeding Association was set up in Tuanze Town immediately. Unexpectedly, due to poor management, the former chairman monopolized the feed. In addition, the quail industry was risky and the product cycle was short. In the first year, the farmers suffered miserable losses. In the second year, people tried again ,but they lost all their money and even couldn't repay the loan.
团泽镇的鹌鹑养殖产业全垮了，没有一个农民去干了。愤怒的养殖户失去了信心，骂政府，骂协会，有的养殖户痛苦地杀了几万只鹌鹑，心里却在滴着血……
The quail-breeding industry in Tuanze Town collapsed. The farmers lost their confidence, angrily blaming the government and Quail-breeding Association. Some farmers could only choose to kill tens of thousands of quails in disappointment and frustration.
其时，发展壮大鹌鹑养殖产业已经写入了政府工作报告，却遭当头棒喝。汇川区、团泽镇的领导急得团团转，到处招商引资，但根本无人问津，原本应该是金饽饽的产业，转眼间成了烫手的山芋。最后，镇上的领导想到了张明富：亚洲金融风波的时候，贵州很多大的日化产业都垮了，张明富的企业却蒸蒸日上，一定是能人！
At that time, the development and expansion of the quail-breeding industry had been included in the government work report, but it suffered a blow. The leaders of Huichuan District and Tuanze town were so anxious that they were attracting investment everywhere, but no one paid any attention. It was originally a golden industry , but became a hot potato in the twinkling of an eye. At last, Zhang Mingfu occurred to the mind of leaders in the town. They recalled that when many major daily chemical industries in Guizhou collapsed during the Asian financial turmoil Zhang Mingfu’s business was thriving, and he must be a man of capability!
镇领导开始做张明富的工作，希望他办一家鹌鹑公司，通过“企业+农户”路子，带领乡亲们闯出一条致富路子。
The town leaders started to persuade Zhang Mingfu to start a quail company and lead the villagers to find a way to get rich through “Enterprise+Farmer”model.
他接下了这块烫手山芋。其实张明富懂市场行情，他心里知道，养鹌鹑风险很高。这段时间，恰逢张明富的一个同学搞立交桥建设，动员他投资入股。他坦言自己要投资养殖鹌鹑。朋友觉得他不是傻了就是疯了，极力劝阻：“这事千万干不得。家财万贯,带毛的不算，到时候亏得你啊！”

During this period, a classmate of Zhang Mingfu was engaged in overpass construction and the classmate persuaded him to invest in shares. He admitted that he would invest in breeding quails. His friend thought he was crazy, and tried his best to discourage him: "Don't do this. Wealth is not wealth until it is in the pocket. You will suffer when the time comes! "
张明富坚持要去做。2004年7月，张明富针对鹌鹑产业进行市场调查，他已经做好了准备：国家正在提“工业反哺农业”，他要把化妆品厂挣的钱全部投到鹌鹑产业上。
Zhang Mingfu insisted on doing it. In July 2004, Zhang Mingfu conducted market research on the quail-breeding industry. Considering that the government was advocating "industry feeding back to agriculture", he prepared to invest all the money earned by the cosmetics factory into the quail-breeding industry.
“哟，如果张明富都把这事情搞起来了，我拿手板心煎蛋给你吃！”曾有人以不屑的口吻和区领导打赌。
"Yo, if Zhang Mingfu succeeds,I will fry eggs in my palms." Someone once bet with the district leaders in a dismissive tone.
张明富到四川、江苏、江西、福建等地考察，回来找农户试验饲养，还是哪家都不干，失去信心的团泽镇农民只要一提鹌鹑就火大。一次，副镇长和张明富到刘家寨谈发展鹌鹑养殖的事，两人先来到一个亲戚家，人家热情地泡上茶，还说：“给你们煮面去。”两人试探地说起了养鹌鹑，亲戚一下子就翻了脸：你们走吧，我要干活了。
Zhang Mingfu investigated on some places like Sichuan, Jiangsu, Jiangxi and Fujian . And he came back to find the villagers to experiment with breeding, but no one wanted to try again. The farmers in Tuanze Town had lost their confidence and became mad when the quail farming was mentioned. Once, the deputy mayor and Zhang Mingfu went to Liujiazhai, trying to discuss the development of quail breeding with the villagers. When they first came to a relative's house, the relatives made tea enthusiastically, and wanted to cook noodles for them. As Zhang Mingfu tentatively talked about raising quail, his relatives angrily sent them away at once.
副镇长和张明富尴尬对视：村民对养殖鹌鹑的不信任已经到这个程度了。 张明富决定自己先把鹌鹑养殖试点搞起来。大坎村基础设施非常薄弱，水、电、路、讯都得企业重新搞。张明富带领企业员工一起通水、通电、修路，几乎没日没夜地干。建设鹌鹑场地时，张明富急需60万贷款，区领导亲自落实贷款，并扶持张明富三万元购买变压器。购买变压器花费两万七千两百块，张明富退还了多余的扶持金。有人说：“脑壳木，给你三万你就报三万嘛,创业也需要钱。”张明富回答，“这是买变压器的，我就只花了两万七千两百块。” 这些方面，他始终“转不过脑筋”。

Therefore, Zhang Mingfu decided to establish a quail-breeding pilot first. The infrastructure in Dakan Village was so weak as water supply, electricity, roads, and Internet communications all needed to be renovated. Therefore, he led the company's employees and engaged in it day and night. When building the quail site, Zhang Mingfu urgently needed a loan of 600,000 yuan. The district leader personally implemented the loan and supported Zhang Mingfu to purchase a transformer for 30,000 yuan.The transformer cost 27,200 yuan, and Zhang Mingfu refunded the excess support money. Someone said, " You are so stubborn! Starting a business requires a lot of money. You can keep all the funds allocated by the government. " Zhang Mingfu replied, " I only spent 27,200 yuan." On these issues of principle, he always stuck to his heart.
他独自把被子搬到了光线昏黑的鹌鹑棚里，与鹌鹑一起生活、睡觉。他在高高的山头漆上“以身投入西部大开发”、“解决三农问题”的标语……
He moved the quilt to the dimly lit quail shed alone, and lived alone in the Quail-Breeding Base. He sprayed paint on the high hills with slogans such as "Devote to the Western Development" and "Solving the Three Rural Issues"...
张明富无声地做着这一切，村民其实是看在眼里的。渐渐有农户开始来找张明富了：你都这样付出了，我们愿意跟着你一起！
The villagers were gradually moved by his efforts, and were willing to try the quail breeding industry again with him.
2005年，张明富拿出原本准备在城市包工的500万和梦润化妆品发展资金1000万，在大坎村成立了贵州梦润鹌鹑公司。他判断，仅靠养鹌鹑是没出路的，必须搞产业化。他打算自建一个饲料厂，降低成本，同时搞产品深加工，延长保质期，降低市场风险，这样就不怕鹌鹑蛋一时半会儿卖不掉了。鹌鹑的粪便用于制成玉米生长需要的有机肥，玉米又成为喂养鹌鹑的饲料，这样一来，“以市场带加工，加工带养殖，养殖带种植”的循环经济模式逐步成型。

He judged that it was not enough to rely only on raising quail. Hence,he planned to build a feed factory to reduce costs, and at the same time engaged in product processing and extended industry chain to reduce the market risk that quail eggs could not be sold in time. The manure of quail was used to make organic fertilizer for corn growth, and the corn became feed for quail. In this way, the circular economic mode " Planting and breeding combined with processing and sales " was gradually taking shape.
在张明富和村民们的努力下，鹌鹑蛋即将大量上市，可此时全国却多处发生了“禽流感”，导致所有禽蛋滞销。张明富非常烦恼。如果这次又让大家伤心失望，团泽镇好不容易发展起来的鹌鹑产业又将垮塌，而且可能再无重新振兴的希望。最后，他代表公司作出一个艰难的决定：挤出资金，将农户卖不出去的鹌鹑蛋回收并悄悄销毁。
Under the efforts of Zhang Mingfu and the villagers, a large number of quail eggs were about to be put on the market, but at this time "avian influenza" had occurred in many places across the country, causing all the eggs to be unsalable. Zhang Mingfu was worried that this failure would disappoint villagers again, the quail industry that Tuanze Town had finally developed would collapse again, and there might be no hope of revitalization. Finally, on behalf of the company, he decided to squeeze out funds to recycle and secretly destroyed quail eggs that farmers could not sell.
张明富组织妹弟李小强和侄儿张仁远负责这项工作。这是秘密进行的，他们把鹌鹑蛋放进车里，选择一处人烟稀少的地点，趁夜晚寂静时分将蛋悄悄倒进河水里喂鱼。每当有人经过，他们就像做贼似的，迅速熄灯关车门，屏住呼吸，不让行人看见“梦润”的字样——因为此时的“梦润”，在村民心目中已是希望、荣誉、产业的象征，它的一次挫败，就会引起村民的恐慌失措。那些小小的鹌鹑蛋扑通扑通地，带着全村人的汗水、希望，带着张明富的无奈、心痛，消失在奔流的河水中。黑暗里，大家彼此安慰，“就当喂鱼”。
Zhang Mingfu asked his younger brother-in-law Li Xiaoqiang and nephew Zhang Renyuan to take charge of this work in secret. They put the quail eggs in the car, chose a solitary place, and quietly poured the eggs into the river to feed the fish in the dead of night. Whenever someone passed by, they quickly turned off their headlights and doors, held their breath like thieves to prevent anyone from seeing the word “Mengrun”- because at this time "Mengrun" was already a symbol of hope, honor and industry in the eyes of the villagers.The setbacks suffered by the company would cause panic among the villagers. Those small quail eggs plopped down one by one into the rushing river and disappeared with the sweat and the hope of the whole village and also with Zhang Mingfu’s helplessness and heartache. In the dark, everyone consoled each other in a humorous tone, “ What we did at least, is good for fish. "
这次行动给公司造成了严重损失，尽管如此，梦润却收获到了更长久的东西：养殖户的信心。由此，鹌鹑产业的基础得以稳固。
This strike caused serious losses to the company. Nevertheless, Mengrun still gained the confidence of farmers. As a result, the foundation of the quail-breeding industry was stabilized.
张明富经常告诉企业员工：“我们梦润人挣钱的理念，是为社会做出贡献后，根据社会分配体制返还利润来挣钱。”
Zhang Mingfu often told employees that the company's philosophy is to give back to the society and distribute profits to everyone according to the social constitution.
靠着诚信、勤奋和拼劲，大坎村的鹌鹑养殖产业风生水起，销量持续走俏。张明富时常奔走在会议室、鹌鹑场和加工厂之间，钻研养殖技术、产品开发和生产加工机器。小小的鹌鹑通过深加工，形成了鹌鹑精肉干、糟辣豆豉鹌鹑、香辣鹌鹑、卤鹌鹑蛋、鹌鹑盐蛋等系列产品，通过了欧盟食品标准检测，“飞”出大山去。 就这样，国内第一家国家级鹌鹑养殖示范基地获国家标准委审批，第一个鹌鹑养殖全自动生产线在大坎村建立起来了。
Relying on integrity, diligence and hard work, the quail-breeding industry in Dakan Village had flourished and sales continued to be popular. Zhang Mingfu was often busy in the meeting rooms, quail farms and processing plants, studied breeding technology, product development and production and processing machinery. 2015年3月28日，国家发改委就业和分配司司长蒲飞宇一行来到梦润公司调研农民工返乡创业政策。会前，蒲飞宇摆了个龙门阵，来梦润调研的路上还以为司机走错路了，因为越走越偏僻，根本不像开厂子的地方。他问大家是不是方向反了，结果到这里一看，大山里居然还真有这么一个现代化的企业——就在这山沟沟，居然坐落着农民工科技创业园、10000平米鹌鹑标准化养殖示范场、1000平方米的职工学习培训活动中心、冷冻库和检测中心、年加工2000吨鹌鹑蛋和1000吨鹌鹑肉的现代化深加工生产线、年孵化360万羽鹌鹑苗的全自动孵化场、年产5万吨熟化饲料厂……

It was unbelievable that in such remoted mountain area located lots of industrial zones, such as a migrant workers’ pioneer park on science and technology, a 10,000 square meters demonstration base for quail standardized breeding, a 1,000 quare meters staff learning and training center, a freezer and a testing center, a modern deep-processing production line that processes 2,000 tons of quail eggs and 1,000 tons of quail meat per year, an automatic hatchery that hatches 3.6 million quail seedlings per year, and a mature feed factory with an annual output of 50,000 tons...
“张明富将工厂建在这大山里的农村，可能每投一块砖都在贬值，所以他返乡创业扎根第一深。”蒲飞宇连用“几个第一”,高度评价了张明富自强不息、扎根农村的精神。7月16日，国家发改委青年干部调研组再次到梦润公司调研，将张明富返乡创业的事迹作为唯一案例写进调研报告，获得了国家发改委优秀调研论文奖。10月8日，国家发改委就业分配司再次明确：将贵州梦润农民工返乡创业园列为“全国农民工返乡创业试点”。

On October 8, the Employment Distribution Department of the National Development and Reform Commission once again explicitly listed Guizhou Mengrun returning-home migrant workers’ entrepreneuship park as the "National Returning-Home Migrant Workers’ Entrepreneuship Park Pilot".
今天，梦润公司被国家标准委评为“国家级鹌鹑标准化养殖示范区”，被农业部国家乡企局授予“回乡创业光荣”称号，获各类专利30余个，起草了7个鹌鹑养殖地方标准，不仅成为贵州省龙头企业，还走到了全国行业最前列，带动大坎村及周围上万农户种植鹌鹑专用饲料玉米和养殖鹌鹑。
Nowadays, Mengrun company has been rated as "National Quail Standardized Breeding Demonstration Area" by the National Standards Committee, and awarded the title of "Glory of Returning-Home Business" by the State Rural Enterprise Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture. It has won more than 30 patents and drafted 7 local standards for quail breeding. It has not only become a leading enterprise in Guizhou Province, but also at the forefront of the industry in China, driven tens of thousands of farmers in Dakan village and around to plant corn for quail feed and breed quails.
烫手的山芋，最终还是成了张明富和大坎村村民的荣誉。张明富又有了新外号——“鹌鹑大王”。
The quail-breeding, as a hot potato, eventually became the honor of Zhang Mingfu and the villagers of Dakan Village and he won the title of “Quail King”.
“消失”的张明富
The disappearance of Zhang Mingfu
张丽鈜小时候看见村民老喜欢把房子修在马路边，她很不理解这种行为，马路边那么吵，灰尘又那么大，为什么非要选择把房子建在这种地方？为什么不住在美丽的山林深处？长大后，她才渐渐理解：城市人见惯了柏油马路，但生活在偏僻山村的农民，出行十分不易，他们对路有一种发自内心的强烈渴望，一种根深蒂固的爱路情结。他们宁愿吵一些、脏一些，也要紧紧地贴近路，似乎这样就离幸福更近一些了。
When Zhang Lihong was a child, she didn't understand why the villagers built their houses on the side of the road. At that time, she thought that living by the road was noisy and dirty. Why didn't live in the depths of the beautiful mountains and forests? When she grew up, she learned that urban life was convenient, but it was very difficult for farmers living in remote mountain villages to travel. Therefore, the villagers have a strong desire for the road from the heart, a deep-rooted love complex. They would rather live beside the road despite the noises and dirts as if they felt closer to happiness.
关于村民对路的渴望，她感受最深的是自己20岁那年，张明富被村民近乎全票选为村长，他干的第一件事就是带领村民修中河公路。那段日子里，大家埋头苦干，一心要把泥水飞溅、路面窄狭的中河公路，修建成路宽6米的硬化水泥路。所有人是带着激动兴奋的心情去做这件事的，因为这是全村人多年的心愿。张明富每天都到施工现场指导，自己也抡起铲、和起泥，加入到队伍中，村民们只要看到他，就觉得安心和踏实，他们知道这条路是张明富顶住压力、努力争取的结果。有人说，不是因为张主任，这条路不知道还要拖多久才能修起来。
Regarding the villagers’ desire for roads, what she felt most deeply was that when she was 20 years old.Zhang Mingfu was elected unanimously the village head by the villagers. The first thing he did was to lead the villagers to repair the Zhonghe Highway. During that period, everyone worked hard and focused on building a 6-meter-wide concrete road from the muddy and narrow Zhonghe Highway. Everyone did this with excitement, because this had been the wish of the whole village for many years. Not only did Zhang Mingfu oversee the construction everyday,but also took the initiative to pick up the shovel and mud. As long as the villagers saw him, they felt at ease and trustworthy. They knew that this road was thanks to Zhang Mingfu’s efforts to bear the pressure. Some people said that if it were not for Director Zhang, I don’t know how long this road will be repaired.
张明富怎么就当上村主任了呢？话要从2011年说起。镇里的领导找张明富语重心长地谈话，说村里缺人才，想推举他成为村主任，实行“能人治村”。
Why did Zhang Mingfu become the village director? It was started in 2011. The leaders of the town asked Zhang Mingfu to talk sincerely and seriously, saying that there was a shortage of the grass-roots cadres in the village, and wanted to recommend him to be the village director to exercise “the village governed by a man of capability”.
对于张明富极强的责任感、战斗力和意志力，镇领导看在心里。这些年来他已经习惯于承担。

2009年4月，大坎发生了泥石流，浑浊的水夹杂泥沙石子，很快封住排洪洞，如果再坐视不管，泥石流就会从另一端的房屋处溢出，严重威胁大家住房和财产安全，只有让这个洞重新畅通才能排洪。
In April 2009, a mudslide occurred in Dakan. The muddy water mixed with mud, sand and gravel quickly sealed the flood discharge tunnel. If they just ignored it, the mudslide would have overflowed from the houses at the other end, seriously threatening the safety of everyone’s housing and property until the hole was cleared again.
由于不放心大家的安全，张明富让大家在洞外等候，自己先爬了进去，判断会否缺氧。确定至少不会缺氧后，他带着7个人钻了进去，洞内空间极窄，长约十米，高仅仅约80公分，此时泥石流已堵住大部分，剩下不到30公分的空间，刚好放进人脑袋，无法用工具掏出泥土。张明富第一个爬进洞里，开始用手刨粘稠浑浊的泥水，又用腿和脚蹬，大家像完成接力赛一样，一个接着一个，合力把碎石混合的泥水给“推”出洞外。水一上一下地漫涌，张明富只有屏住呼吸才至于被水呛……最后，泥沙疏通了，洪水也消退了，张明富最后一个爬出来，满脸满身都是泥沙，大家看到，他手指都刨出了血，四肢也有许多被碎石划破的伤痕…… 这些事，都叫人啧啧称赞。
Worried about everyone’s safety, Zhang Mingfu asked everyone to wait outside the cave and climbed in first to judge whether there would be lack of oxygen. After determining that there would be at least no hypoxia, he took seven people to drill in. The space in the cave was very narrow, about 10 meters long and only about 80 cm high. At this time, most of the debris flow had been blocked, leaving less than 30 cm of space, which was too small for a man to use tools to take out the soil. Zhang Mingfu was the first to climb into the hole and began to dig the thick and muddy mud with his hands and also push hard with his feet. Like completing the relay race, one by one, he worked together to "push" the mud mixed with gravel out of the hole. The water surged up and down, and Zhang Mingfu had to hold his breath before he choked on the water... Finally, the sediment cleared, and the flood subsided. He was the last to crawl out of the hole. the village governed by a man of capability. These experiences were commendable.
当时的镇党委书记徐宇几乎天天找张明富“洗脑”，不断告诉他，“你必须干！”张明富一脸为难，没有同意，因为他想到企业正在创业关键期，样样事情离不开他，他没法撒手不管。徐宇也毫不松口，他说：“村子现在需要人才，你的企业不是已经搞起来了嘛？而且你又扎根在大坎村。明富，现在只有你带这个村，大坎才有希望啊！”
Xu Yu, the secretary of the town party committee brainwashed him almost every day, and asked him to accept the task of being the village director. Zhang Mingfu is worried about the operation of the company, so he could not walk away irresponsibly. Xu Yu didn't give up and persuaded him, “Now that your company has been on the right track, and at present Dakan villager urgently needs you to lead us for a bright future!”
直到得知村民几乎全票推举他当村主任，张明富才有些心慌，他给女儿张丽鈜打电话询问意见，那时大家根本不知道他会以这么高的票数当选，还在贵州财经大学念书的张丽鈜很快从学校赶回大坎，和公司核心骨干一起开了个非常正式的会议，“张明富是否要任职大坎村村委会主任”一事，要由大家共同商定：
“当村长会分散精力，企业在发展阶段，怎么离得开你？”有人说。
Zhang Mingfu was a little flustered when he learned that the villagers elected him unanimously as the village director. He called his daughter Zhang Lihong to ask for opinions. At that time, everyone didn’t know that he would be elected with such a large number of votes. Zhang Lihong, who was still studying at Guizhou University of Finance and Economics, quickly rushed back to Dakan from school and held a very formal meeting with the core backbone of the company to discuss whether Zhang Mingfu would serve as the director of the village committee of Dakan village. Some people thought that being a village head will affect the managrment and development of the enterprise.
但张丽鈜非常支持父亲。她说：“张总，当村长是会影响到企业本身的发展,但是你把企业建到家乡来，不就是为了把周围的一切都发展起来吗？不就是为了把家乡带富裕吗？” 这几句话霎时点醒了每一个人。
But Zhang Lihong was very supportive of his father. She said, " Being the head of the village, would undoubtedly increase the pressure on the management of the company, while the purpose of starting business here is to help the development of our hometown." These few words awakened everyone instantly.
“既然村民都选了你，哪怕是我们个人作出一点牺牲，中层干部每人多分担一些……所以，张总，当村长吧！”最后，会议一致通过张明富任职村主任。
"Since the villagers have elected you, you should accept it.We can make a concession and middle-level cadres can share more responsibilities." In the end, his appointment as village director was unanimously approved by the meeting.
于是，带领这个贫困村5000人脱贫致富的担子，沉甸甸地压到了张明富肩上。 想致富，先修路，这道理放在哪儿都如此。大坎村的交通主要靠两条路：连接中桥到河包的中河公路，多年来一直是泥水横流、坑坑洼洼，村民意见很大，向政府反映了多次；连接团泽镇和大坎村的团九公路是一条村级土路，也是大坎村村民的心头痛处，最窄路宽不到4米，弯弯拐拐数十个，靠摩托车出行的菜农、村民出行很不安全，致死致伤的交通安全事故时有发生——张明富的妹妹和妹夫就是在这条路上出事的，另有一个村民骑摩托车，因路窄被卡死了。张明富为此一直很痛苦。
As a result, the burden of leading 5,000 people in the village out of poverty and increasing incomes was placed on Zhang Mingfu's shoulders. As the proverb was saying, “ if you want to get rich, build roads first”, this was true everywhere. The traffic in Dakan Village mainly relied on two roads. One was the Zhonghe Road connecting Zhongqiao to Hebao which had been muddy water and potholes for many years. The villagers were very concerned about this and had reflected to the government many times. Another was the Tuanjiu Highway connecting Tuanze Town and Dakan which was a village-level dirt road. The villagers were eager to solve this problem. The narrowest road was less than 4 meters wide, with dozens of bends and turns. It was not safe for vegetable farmers and villagers to travel on motorcycles. At the time, fatal accidents were common on this stretch of road, where Zhang's sister and her husband had an accident on this road.In addition, a villager riding a motorcycle also died in an accident on this road. Zhang Mingfu had been very painful for this.
因此，张明富当村长干的第一件事，就是把中河公路修好、扩宽并硬化，再把团九公路扩宽、弯道改直。
Therefore, the first thing Zhang Mingfu did as the village head was to repair, widen and harden the Zhonghe Road, and then widen and straighten the Tuanjiu Road.
修建中河公路时，政府承诺每公里下拨45万元，按照预算，路宽只够修到4.5米。考虑村里的长远发展，张明富坚持将路宽修成6米。
When the Zhonghe Road was built, the government promised to allocate 450,000 yuan per kilometer. According to the budget, the width of the road was only 4.5 meters. Considering the long-term development of the village, Zhang Mingfu insisted on building the road width to 6 meters.
他最终说服了领导，但也为此要承担起一个大风险。在区政府现场办公会议纪要上，有这样一条记录，大致意思为：以45万每公里的造价将4米泥巴路修成6米宽的标准水泥路，差的资金缺口由大坎村张明富自行筹资解决。
He finally convinced the leader, but he took a great risk. In the minutes of the district government’s on-site office meeting, there was such a record, which roughly means that they expanded the 4-meter-wide mud road into a 6-meter-wide standard cement road at a cost of 450,000 yuan per kilometer. Zhang Mingfu was responsible for finding a way to raise funds to solve the insufficient funds.
背负这份承诺，张明富苦苦思考着，要把4.5米的公路修成6米，还需占地1.5米，征地款将是很大一笔支出。老党员、村民代表们知道了张明富作出的牺牲，纷纷表示愿意免费让出自家的责任地，支持村里修路。
In order to expand the 4.5-meter-wide road into 6 meters, land acquisition subsidy was a great expense, which was very troublesome for Zhang Mingfu.Older party members and villager representatives knew the pressure Zhang Mingfu was bearing, and they all expressed their willingness to give up the right to use their own land for free to support road construction in the village.
2011年春天，中河公路动工了，全村上下干劲十足，仅仅三四个月的时间，六米的毛路已经修成。
In the spring of 2011, with the joint efforts of the whole village, the construction of Zhonghe Highway started. In only three or four months, six meters road had been completed.
此时，日夜奔忙的张明富身体却出现了状况，他的颈椎疼得越发厉害，已经无法做任何低头的动作。他找来一些木棍和绷带，将木棍固定在自己背后，用绷带的一端缠绕木棍，一端套住自己的额头，通过这样一个简陋器械，辅助自己阅读文件。他的眼睛附近肌肉频繁跳动，经过医院检查，需要做大脑神经手术。他只好暂时放下村里的工程，去北京天坛医院接受治疗。就在他离开大坎住院治疗期间，谣言却在村子里散播开来：
At this point, Zhang Mingfu, who was overworked, had a problem with his body.His cervical vertebra was so painful that he could not bow his head. He made a simple instrument out of sticks and bandages, fixed the sticks to his back, and wrapped the bandages around the sticks and head to help him read documents. His muscles around his eyes beat so frequently that he needed neurosurgery on his brain. He had to take a break from his village work and go to Beijing Tiantan Hospital for treatment. While he was out of Dakan for hospital treatment, rumors began to spread throughout the village:
“你们的张主任得癌了，可能过几天就不行了，这个路怕是修不成啦！”
正在埋头修路的村民惶然失措。
还有传言说，“张明富贪钱了，遭抓了！”
“张明富都丢下你们跑啦，你们还修啥子路？”
"Director Zhang has been diagnosed with cancer and may not live long. I am afraid that this road will not be repaired!"
The villagers who were immersed in road repairs were panicked.
There was also a rumor, "Zhang Mingfu was greedy for money and was arrested!"
"Zhang Mingfu has left you to run away, what are you still repairing?"
大坎村人心惶惶，村民经常四处眺望，眼睛都望穿了，就是看不到张明富。张主任天天都和我们一起修路，这几天突然不见了踪影，他到底去了哪儿？
The people in Dakan Village were panic. The villagers looked forward to Zhang Mingfu's return every day to break the rumors, but he didn't appear. They were puzzled where he was at present who was working with villagers a few days ago.
然而谣言很快被戳破了。没过几天，张明富又若无其事地出现在施工队里，大家都放了心。他还是那个老样子，严厉、认真、不爱笑，充满号召力。但他好像又有些不同，他一铲接一铲，如同打了鸡血般，比之前更加卖力。大家都看不透他的内心起了什么波澜。
However, the rumors were quickly dispelled. A few days later, everyone was relieved, because Zhang Mingfu appeared in the construction team casually. He was as serious and charismatic as ever. But he seemed to be a little different. He worked harder than before, shovel after shovel, very veriously. No one could know what was going on in his heart.
